Blog 1:September 27 2025 Why I joined the indie web. Hellooo!! Welcome to my first blog. The time of me writing this i havent posted my website and it is still being worked on. So this is early delvopment stufff. Now, onto the topic. Now,i'm assuming you found this in neocites, but if you came from my tumblr, i may need to explain what the indie web even is. The indie web is a bunch of websites made by people who arnet a big company or arnet a company. Some people join it for fun,others join it for other reasons i'll get into. Social media. Now dont get me wrong,Im not a boomer dad from youtube whos convicing you to leave social media as a whole because thats difficult for some people. Social media could be the only place they feel accepted,which is why i'm not here to tell you that. What I AM here to tell you though is to keep social media platofrms at the place,not everywhere. Back in the 1990s when desktops were becoming more popularized you could'nt really bring it anywhere. It was a place you checked out then left. It was more special and fun then now too,Geocites,and myspace were platforms that let you customize to the extreme. It had things like html and css so you can customize things to the very extreme. If your addited to sonic and want you everything to be one partical image,you can do that,and if you love it,hey,that just means your having fun. Like how the web was normalized to be. Onto the future, 2020 was a year where evrything changed. everyone was stuck inside not sure of what to do,and since the world was basically shit, social media was a hitter. It was so you had some joy left of the world, and to not feel alione when you are. After covid ended,everyone had a social media by this point,hey, even youtube counts! it doesnt seem bad at first, because it isnt. But this is when people stopped being less and less creative and inspired. they had less time to work on things they truly loved and were passiote for,some people even lost hobbys. This is the effect of greedy corporations being hyperfixated on tracking your every move. This is so they can go ahead and find specific ads and train algorithms(things that power the content you consumes in media) to watch your every move to keep you in the site. Another thing is AI too :dont get me started. Ai steals from many creators without their consent, so people can not do jack shit when it comes to their artistic skill and just say"hey chat gpt generate me art of a cute anime girl!"fuck off. Charater ai users arent safe either,at first i thought it wasnt an issue but realiazeing this entire thing with art being the same with literally everything including writing got me off the platform and made me move to ao3 fanfiction. Its sick and disguusting. This lessens he whole purpose of the web,to explore what you choose,and show your ablitys. Not be a lying bitch who what you want is fame and money. "well what COULD i do about it Cen?? How could I fight back i'm just one person?? Plus, is there really any hope?? Wahh wahhh" calm down please. AND MAKE YOUR OWN WEBSITE. Okay, I know,making websites isnt for everyone and isnt gonna be the top thing in the internet one day but it should'nt stop you. think about it: if you make your own social media then you have full control over EVERYTHING and you could do whatever you want with no censorship. Learning HTML and CSS are totally worth it."But how could i code its too complecated??" I recomend watching youtube videos of it, and some knowlege of files. "But i dont HAVE a pc or computer Cen i'm not as rich as you!!" Introduce you to strawpage. Strawpage requrires 0 coding and all you need is a phone and a browser in order to start. You can use the photos from your liberary and put them in. Its how i started making websites and its a great place."BUT I DONT HAVE INTERNET!!" how are you seeing this..? Anyway my point here is that no matter what device you have you can make your very own website. Now,whats the message of this? Now,if your not gonna put anything i just said in your life take this please. You dont have to stop using big social media and go back to using a flip phone and using a windows xp. What I AM trying to tell you is that hese big places should'nt be the only places your online in. there are SO many websites in the world and you can still have fun. Please go out of your comfort zone evry once and a while, because you wont regreat it. I personally rec checking out Neocites,Nekoweb,and Wiby but you dont have to pick any. Go explore outside, maybe then you'll know knowlege about something.. AND BE CRINGE FOR GODS SAKE. Peace
